Studying drawings, researching data on engines, locating sources for components ...
Many hours are spent researching data for suppliers, equipment, drawings, and all the odds & ends that are needed to start and sustain the building of an experimental aircraft. Most builders don't take the "cost" of time and commitment in this process and that I believe is why so many projects languish and end up either being sold, or abandoned. For now all I can do is build my minds knowledge of this aircraft, and how I need to proceed to the first test flight. This is now my first circus so I already have a good foundation on what to do, it's how to proceed in the process that takes my time the most. And so I try to track and add this time into my build process. Some might argue that "it's not really building, or actual building" but the fact is that with out first thinking there can be no doing ....
