Replacing the Rotax HIC Connectors

After the engine was installed, I routed the ECU connectors, and HIC connectors through the firewall penetration. The ECU connectors installed without issue. However, I found the HIC connectors to be quite tedious in their configuration and installation of the pins. After a few attempts of connecting the male and female, HIC connectors, I was not confident that all of the pins were mating properly. I would disconnect the connectors, and noticed that a few of the pins were pushed into the housing. After a few attempts of trying to make these connections I did not feel confident. I began doing some research to determine if there could be an alternative to these HIC connectors supplied by Rotax. I discovered that the subsequent 916 model engine is now using a canon style connector versus the rectangular plug style connector. I had been struggling with. So I made the decision to order 2ea 16 pin cannon plugs from Mouser Electronics to replace the existing rectangular plugs. I feel more confident that these connections will be more robust especially that I see this is the choice on the 916.
