Firewall cable glands

Grommets are provided in the kit for all the control cable passthroughs in the firewall. These have been replaced by cable glands. Multicomp PP001666 3-6.5mm glands are used for the single cabin heat and the two choke cables, each 5mm diameter. Multicomp PP001667 4-8mm passthroughs are used for the two throttle cables. These throttle cables, despite being 6mm in diameter have a swaged collar at each end about 8mm diameter. These swages are covered in heatshrink tubing. Removing the tubing at one end enables the swage to be passed through this larger gland, the heatshrink can then be replaced.

Multicomp PP001666 3-6.5mm glands are also used for the brake line and regulator capacitor passthroughs.

A Multicomp PP001670 10-14mm or PP001671 13-18mm gland will be used for the bundle of cables comprising the engine sensors, and thermocouple cables (which are actually terminated firewall forward)

The glands were all mounted with the body facing aft, as this is thought to provide better resistance to a fire situation firewall-forward as well as providing more room for the control cables to make a turn closer to the firewall front surface. The cables aft of the firewall make a very gradual sweep towards the centre console.
