Alternate static switch design
I have ejected the static select switch (a Clippard TV-3S) from the panel to a location most probably on the upper centre console coverplate, within easy reach during flight. A switch guard is required however to prevent inadvertent operation. However there are lots of different types of switch guard, which different policies on what they do to the switch position when the cover is closed

Code 16 does not alter the switch position when the cover is closed. These are MS27752-1 (8498K6). However these are not so readily available.
Another concept is to choose a cover that always returns the switch to a definite state when shut. This means there is no need to lift the cover to check the switch position. Perhaps the default position should be to select external static. If one needs to switch to internal static - regarded as an unusual situation - then one lifts the switch cover, flicks the switch and leaves the cover open.

The TV-3S is shown below. The toggle is in the external static (default, with cover closed) position

The axial (top) tube runs to the external static port. The transverse (side) tube runs to the ADHRS module. This switch does not have a keyway, so a 3-hole mounting guard is required
Looking over what is available from Aircraft Spruce

is a typical example of a 3-hole mount. Its manufacturer code is MS25224-2. The corresponding Safran part is 8497K2 with a Code number 2. This means that it returns the switch to the OFF position when the cover is closed. Now all this means is that the switch is forced into a particular position, which is not actually defined in the above document.
What I do want is for the hinge to face forward, so that I can flick the cover open with a minimal extension of my hand, given that the switch will be forward somewhat of my knees.
The remaining variable is the orientation of the switch. I want the switch to be in the position shown, when the cover is closed. This is the external static selected as a default. Some discovery is required when I order the switch.
From the image above, I reckon the switch toggle is forced away from the hinge when the cover is closed. So if the guard is mounted as defined above, then the toggle will be pushed aft when the cover is closed. So the switch should be mounted such that the transverse line to the ADHRS should point aft. Bit of a pain, but that is life, the tube will have to route through a full 180 degrees.
