HIRTH ENGINE DATA AND CONTACT WITH JORDAN LAKE AERO

Talked to Steve at JLA

I was able to talk with Steve at Jordan Lake Aero today for awhile; what a nice gentleman ..he really took the time to fill me in on all the details of the kit and other factors of building the Tandem Air Bike. Now to pay for the kit. It turns out the kit includes a pre-welded airframe which is to me a wonderful gift. I am still going to buy a TIG welder and learn TIG welding. It turns out that the local Lincoln welder supplier up here not only is going to let me come "play" with a TIG welder, but also has instructors on staff to teach me basic welding if I buy my welder from them ... yes of course I'll buy it from them.

I'm getting pumped about this project; what remains now for a big decision is the engine choice. Since my plan is to register the bird as an Experimental Light Sport aircraft it remains to determine what modifications may be needed depending on engine choice. Like I said previously in earlier posts my goal is a liquid cooled engine of 60 to 90 HP and not a 2-stroke since I do not want to fool around with the jetting of carburetor's used on those types of engines. I do know that Hirth offers a number of great choices in engines, the 3503 comes to mind for now so I'm researching this option. it is a 2-stroke, fuel injected water cooled engine that weighs 79 # with the exhaust and coolant in the engine. I've set up a telephone conference with Hirth to see about getting this engine and possibly becoming a dealer up here in Alaska?
