Installing wheels, tires and brakes
I assembled the wheels first, following the KAI, without any complications. When attempting to install the inner tubes and tires, I discovered that all three of my inner tubes were dry rotted. I requested replacements from sling, which I received timely.
I am installing the Matco double puck brakes. This is an upgrade from the original kit which contain single puck brakes. I understand that newer kits come with the double pump brakes as a standard option.
Even though I charge the brake system with ATF fluid, I will still need to install a steel line at the top of the brake caliper assembly on each side. This steel tube did not come with my kit, and I have requested from sling to ship one as soon as possible.
I found it easy to charge the brake system by first turning the parking brake on then pushing fluid from left to right and right to left until all bubbles were cleared. Then, to charge the line through the master cylinder to the firewall, I opened or turned off the parking brake, then pushed fluid from the left side caliper (does not matter which side) and began purging the system until all bubbles were clear. I opened the fluid reservoir, so more fluid could go into a container without overflowing the reservoir.
