Total amount of Sika 295 needed for canopy
Sides = 2 x 85 cm x 1 bead
Rear arch = 1 x 190cm x 2 beads
Front arch = 1 x 180cm x 1 bead
Total bead length = 635cm
Now recommended minimum thickness of 295UV bead when bonding acrylic and fibreglass is 3mm. The KAI is not very clear about this, but seems to imply a thickness of 1.5mm or so. Sling technical stated 1.6mm but I have photos of a factory built canopy which suggest Sling is in reality going for a 3mm bead. Calculations below also imply something closer to a 3mm bead if one presses down for minimal squeeze-out.
Assume a 3mm = 0.3cm thick bead when perspex pressed down, and each band is 3cm wide, approx
Total volume of Sika 295UV = 0.3 cm * 3 cm * 635 cm = 571 cm^3
Total amount of Sika available = 4 x 300 mL tubes = 1200 cm^3
About 50mL used to make pre-cured spacing buttons, so 1150mL left - plenty of margin
Expect to use 2 and a bit tubes
Diameter of bead - assume 3cm x 0.3cm bead dimensions - area 0.09cm^2
This corresponds to a bead diameter of 1.07cm, close to the 1cm recommended in the KAI
I am inclined to add an area margin of 25% which makes the bead diameter 1.2cm. An even thicker bead might need to be added in the rear corners where there is a wider overlap area. The corner-corner distance increases to 10cm, which suggests the bead needs to be about 2cm diameter in this area (no margin added here). Alternatively, a couple of beads can be laid side be side which then continue up the rear arch as the needed separate beads.
