Troubleshooting Radio and Transponder
Spent time today going over some issues I’ve had with the GTR205X com radio (Com2) as well as the GTX45R (Transponder). Figured out after much digging that I installed the wrong config module (had the black one installed, should be the green one) which is what was giving me the ‘config module needs attention’ error I was seeing on the unit when powering on. Got that swapped out and that message is no longer there. Next issue was that I was still getting a yellow X on the displays for Com2 and it wasn’t fully communicating between the two devices. In config mode I could see that the HSDB lines were working properly. Figured out that in the GTR you have to select that there is a display and navigator connected to the unit. And easy one to miss as its buried in the configuration settings. Lastly on the transponder, was also getting the same yellow X on the PFD as the radio. First thing was to check the wiring and sure enough I found one pin that was slightly bent on the HSDB group of pins. In attempting to pull out the bad pin the metal retaining clip in the dsub connector pulled out, so will have to get a new connector (thankfully they’re only $3.50). Did a temp solution to test the pin outs just plugging the wires straight into the unit and the HSDB lines were now properly communicating. Was still getting a serial error from the unit though and found that the RS232 connection between the transponder and PFD as well as the ADAHRs unit had a pin swapped/one slot over. Got those repinned and now it seems as though we got through all the squawks for now.
