Sorting Through The Avionics

I'm sorting through the various avionics boxes, trying to shoehorn them into limited real estate on the sub-panel located behind the main panel and get them mounted securely. There're many competing priorities for space. The existing harnesses and connectors have limited length, the connectors are many times big and bulky and the wiring bundles quite thick and inflexible. You also have to take into account engine control cables, heater cables, engine sensor wiring and where all that's going to go. There's very limited guidance from Van's because every plane is unique with a smorgasbord of avionics vendors and components to choose from. Custom bracketry and trays are frequently required unique to the individual installation. My all-Garmin panel if pretty sophisticated but mainstream as well to makes things easier. Once big problem that interfered with my mounting plans was how much the canopy structure intrudes on the sub panel space. So, head scratching and conferring with others ensued. Custom trays have been ordered to mount my GEA24 and GD40 on the left side. The backup IBBS battery will go on the sub panel. I'm still grappling with how to mount my GMA245R and GTR20 remote radio on the right side. I did get my sticks back from Tosten, cut down with the grips and harnesses installed. I like the look and feel of them.
